Corporate Information Site
FTL is a leading architectural engineering design firm, providing consulting
services for lightweight deployable design and construction technologies,
such as band shells, tents and canopies. Their design work is known for
elegantness of form and effectiveness of function. FTL provides design solutions
that excel in simplicity, perfection to detail and efficiency of construction.
When FTL came to Unified Field to design a promotional website for their
company, they wanted to clearly reflect their design principles, and offer
information about their company in a way that is immediate and accessible.
The goal of the site is to have prospective clients review the work. It
was designed to give an immediate and visceral sense of the deployable and
constructible nature of the firms work. The content consists largely of
a historical portfolio, and is not likely to change. The content is more
static in nature. As such, it was particularly appropriate to make the site
more dynamic and "play-able". There is no fold, no scrolling is
necessary, and there is no hidden information.
The site won an Award by ID Magazine who said it won not only for its "clean,
airy construction," but also for its "faithful adaptation of the
company's principles in a manner native to the interactive environment."
The judges said, "The simple yet innovative interface has a metaphorical
relationship to FTL's work." It was also just acknowledged in a new
book, Designing Websites for Every Audience, published by HOW design books.
