The Newseum

Internet Site

Newseum, an interactive museum about journalism and the news, hired Unified Field for several projects. We were originally hired to plan, design and develop the public website for the Newseum, when it opened in Arlington Virginia. Out of that project came several others installations, including a few online interactive exhibits such as "Stories of the Century", where the public was invited to cast their vote for the top news stories of the 20th century. Votes were collected, tabulated in an online survey and then presented online.

Next we worked with the Newseum to teach children about ethics in journalism. We worked closely with the museum to develop a Newsday property, Chip Tracer, a comic strip character turned cyber journalist and heroine who travels back in time. By engaging the children in scenario-based re-enactments of historical events, they were able to learn by making choices that would impact the decisions of journalists, and learn first hand how those decisions would impact world events.

The episodes of Chip Tracer were developed simultaneously and housed at kiosks within the museum as well as online for public online. Chip Tracer has become very popular and won numerous industry awards, credited not only for its ability to engage a diverse audience, but also for its ability to provide understanding of the content.
