Wild Explorations in Science
Unified Field collaborated with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS)
on the creation, design and development of their new web-based educational
program, Wild Explorations in Science.
The program will include a comprehensive, interactive educational program
for the science curriculum at high schools. Six online courses will be delivered
to form a comprehensive body of knowledge, with each course focusing on
a unique geographic area and specialized subject. Students will explore
a case study in depth and engage in a variety of on-line and off-line science
activities and processes, such as: hypothesizing, data interpretation and
analysis, geographic and information mapping, and report writing and presentation.
Wild Explorations in Science engages high school students in an active relationship
throughout the learning process, engaging them in real-world situations,
recreating expert knowledge and experiences, and providing deep learning.
Through an interactive course of study, students will learn about the subject
by being cast as scientists and citizens, practicing scientific inquiry
and facing real world challenges. They will be motivated to learn both content
and concepts in individual and collaborative learning environments.
Unified Field has created age-appropriate concepts and frameworks that allow
for multiple knowledge-gathering paths, and systems that support a wide
range of users and results. The program has been designed to maximize learning
by engaging students in ways appropriate to their individual learning styles
and existing knowledgebase. By catering to different styles and effectively
utilizing interaction, students' retention is increased.
